Our Story

Hello, we’re Robbie Lobell and Maryon Attwood. We met at one of the oldest crafts schools in the country, the Worcester Center for Crafts in Massachusetts as part of a re-building and renaissance of the Craft Center as a major center for craft education during the mid-1990's.

Our friendship grew during those years and led to a partnership in life and business forged in creativity and firmly rooted in a community and studio life.

We moved to Whidbey Island off the coast of Washington State in 2005, designing and producing our clay cookware. In 2010, we formally established Cook on Clay LLC, a ground-breaking, woman-owned artisan-manufacturing endeavor. Cook on Clay LLC was a significant participant in reinvigorating the American studio craft movement with making our artisan-based hydraulic-pressed high quality clay cookware.

In early 2025, we passed Cook on Clay to a new generation of makers. We re-named our new venture, 3rd Street Studio housing Robbie’s pottery studio, Maryon’s sculpture studio, and our apprentice studio.

Passion for handmade objects continues to resonate as part of daily studio life. We also continue our dedication to educating and mentoring young women in studio pottery and business practices through our Zakin apprenticeship program.

Knowing our pots are well-used in kitchens and homes across America and beyond is a great source of gratitude and inspiration as we move into our next chapters.
