2026 Workshops
Flameproof Cooking Pots : from the Studio to the Kitchen to the Table
July 19 - 24, 2026 : $1475
includes clay, hands-on instruction, bisque firings
There are many considerations a potter must entertain while making pots for high-heat cooking environments including function + utility, cooking methods, local food systems, international recipes, and tabletop culture.

Stovetop pots, casseroles, broilers, bakers, roasters, skillets, saucepots, oven/pizza stones are all possible forms that may be investigated. We will begin our pots in the round on the potter’s wheel and then alter into a variety of shapes that will take the form of practical cooking pots.
Demonstrations, daily practice, and lively discussion will give participants a solid foundation for working with flameware and for ideas to take shape in the form of handmade pots for slow food and a healthy world. Glazing and firing techniques will be covered.

This workshop is designed for students with a solid foundation in wheel-forming. Class is limited to 6.

Soda Fire Workshop
Expand Your Surface Vocabulary in a Soda Kiln
August 2 - 7, 2026 : $1150
includes instruction + slips + glazes + firing
The soda kiln offers exciting opportunities to explore the surfaces of our pots in direct relationship to the form while allowing the soda application and atmospheric activity to influence the outcome.

Students bring 10-20 bisque pots (depending upon size), made with cone 9/10 clays. We’ll use slips and glazes with various resist techniques to create patterns or imagery, emphasizing the relationship between the glazed and unglazed glazed areas on your pots.
Participants are fully hands-on in loading, firing, unloading, and after-firing tasks.
* Day 1 + 2 – glaze + wad + load + light
* Day 3 - fire
* Day 4 + 5 - kiln cools + demos + field trip or free time
* Day 6 - unload + discuss results + after-firing tasks
Participants arrange their own housing (we can recommend local lodging options). Inns, motels, campgrounds, beaches, hiking trails, farmers markets, and many restaurants nearby.
